About us

We are a married couple practicing two distinct, but complimentary, ancient holistic traditions from Asia. Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda are the two oldest medical traditions in the world, dating back at least 5,000 years. Our aim is to honor both the roots of these practices as well as our ancestral teachers, by utilizing ancient principles to develop treatments specifically suited to modern times and individual needs.

Heron & Crane Wellness is located in historic Fairhaven, in one of the oldest buildings in Bellingham. Our space was situated with healing at the forefront: a room that is peaceful and grounding, with brick walls, natural lighting, and everything you need to feel at ease. Book an appointment today, and start feeling better tomorrow.

I am an NCCAOM nationally-certified acupuncturist licensed to practice in the state of Washington. I use a combination of techniques (acupuncture, moxibustion, massage, medical Qigong, cupping, gua sha, sound healing) to treat physical and psycho-emotional pain.

I have a very gentle approach and specialize in treating sensitive people. If you are highly sensitive, or if you have wanted to try acupuncture but are scared of needles, I would love to work with you (some of my treatments don’t use needles at all). I work with patients of all ages and have a particular rapport with children and elders. I am trained in several traditions and offer a spectrum of treatment styles which I tailor-fit to each individual patient. Though my approach is very gentle, I am also trained in Chinese deep-needling styles and trigger point therapy. Whatever your particular need is, I will find the right treatment to help you come closer to your center of balance.

I found Chinese medicine through an inherent fascination with Eastern philosophy and religion, particularly Buddhism and Taoism. I have been a Zen Buddhist for over a decade, and received the lay precepts in 2018 at Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple in Portland, OR. Through my practice of zazen (seated meditation), I found a deep need to reconnect to my body and began to study martial arts and yoga.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the University of Oregon, and spent the first part of my life as a semi-professional musician. I have a lifelong love of music and sound, but found the political and business atmosphere of the music world to be stifling to creativity. In 2016 I decided to change careers to align my spiritual and professional life. I returned to school, and completed a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture at Middle Way Acupuncture Institute in Mt. Vernon, WA. I have discovered that my experience in music perfectly complements my acupuncture treatments, as both depend completely on listening and responding to the present moment effectively. I wrote my thesis on the relationship of Acupuncture and Sound Healing, and continue to explore these ideas every day in the clinic.

Hello! I’m Jen, a yoga teacher of 15 years, an Ayurvedic Nutritionist, and Ayurvedic Health Counselor. I fell in love with yoga in 2008, after a vinyasa class that felt like coming home to my body, breath, and spirit. Since then, yoga has been a part of my everyday life, both as a practice and through sharing the love of this lifestyle with others. I encourage students to move beyond the physical layer, and into the true purpose of what yoga was developed for: to know yourself better. This comes from time, patience, dedication, and the guidance of someone who sees you for who you truly are. I’m here to help shed light on the path that was always yours.

My reverence for the physical and spiritual practice of yoga quickly led me to the sister science of Ayurveda, known as “The Science Of Life.” While I’d been relatively “healthy” my entire life, it wasn’t until I found Ayurveda that I truly began to understand the healing capacity of food, lifestyle, and our connection to the elements. When we move through life with our intuition intact, we begin trusting ourselves on a whole new level. As an Ayurvedic client, we’ll work together to determine your specific constitution (prakruti), the habits we need to build (or move beyond), and the best path forward toward finally feeling well, for good. Meal plans, lifestyle shifts, and so much more are all on the table when it comes to nourishing one’s truest self. I offer personalized care, planning, and a targeted approach based what YOU need most; never a one-size-fits-all.

Combining my affinity for yoga and my decade long experience as a classroom teacher, I developed Paper Crane Yoga, Yoga+Mindfulness For Kids. Within this enrichment program, I offer yoga, breathing, intention-setting, and connection to students throughout the Bellingham School District. I deeply believe our kids deserve the chance to understand themselves better, and to remember how special they are, inside and out.

Join me for group classes each week at Barkley Yoga, and students K-5 are invited to join Paper Crane Yoga (during the school year) through the after school enrichment program.

I’m deeply grateful for the life I get to lead, and to be sharing it with my family in the majestic PNW. While I’ve lived in western Washington most of my life, it’s Bellingham that has felt like home ever since I attended Western Washington University. I’m honored to be sharing the joy of living well with those who walk through our door.
